cute li'l pansy flowerSnapshot of March, 2004: SAK celebrates her birth, We go to Florida...

Here's a bit on SAK's natal day celebration, which the boys were so kind to provide, a couple of Jeff in the Desert photos and a lot about Spring Break in north central Florida. SAK didn't get any pictures of Gainesville, her home town, because it was getting dark when we went through there. However, they trees WERE green and the air DID smell good! (to paraphrase Tom Petty)

How could you not have a happy 46th with so many pansies around?
cake!
Jeff and the kids got me a cake. That was so sweet!

dec
Deckie was also happy about the birthday thing, due to cake and ice cream being present.

flowers
My sis Canova sent beautiful flowers.
JGT and DS
Jeffrye and his friends Steve and Danny drove to Folk Alliance in San Diego. Here JGT and Danny prove they made it to the beach.
saguaros
The boys were quite taken by the saguaros on the way there.
big cactus
THIS is a big cactus, as little Steve demonstrates.

For Spring Break, we dropped the kids off in Houston, then drove like heck to Foley, Alabama, where we met Joanne, Brian and kids. They were asleep when we left, so all we got was a picture of the house. And precious memories...

We then drove to The Villages, Florida, where Jeffrye's mother, Rose, lives. Here's her house!

Here is more of a side view. She likes palm trees!
rose street
Here's a view of a golf cart coming down Rose's street. It missed Jeff.

The entryway, showing the name sign on the light. Nearly everyone has one of those.

Rose's golf cart with her signature license plate. Snazzy, huh?

Rose marvels at SAK's incessant sock knitting behavior, while relaxing on the front porch.

Rose at home.

MMM, a pretty sock with a basket weave pattern. Now found on SAK's feet.

A knitting break!

Mother and son on the porch.

A view from Rose's back porch, showing the fancy pool behind her.

The other side of the back porch, demonstrating the little piece of view to the next street that constitutes an "unobstructed view."

The view from the porch we were sitting on above. You can see genuine oak trees!

The lovely living room.

The kitchen and dining area.

Sandy and Aenea came to see us on St. Patrick's Day and we had lunch on the back porch.

SAK and Sandy, 2004 version.

One of Jeffrye's artsy photos of driving in the golf cars.

Rose wants to know if she can get out of the cart yet.

Rose shows off her cheeleading form, getting ready for St. Patrick's Day parade.

The full effect!

The whole Chatham Cheerleading Chicks squad demonstrates spirit.

Rose, Jake, Aenea, Sandy and SAK eagerly await the parade. SAK knits.

Here are some shots of the downtown with all the different buildings and the parade crowd.

The gazebo where there is music nightly.

Where the private club for residents is.

Our whole party parading.

Getting tired but still smiling!!

Sandy is enthralled by her shiny necklaces the folks on floats and decorated golf carts were throwing.

Jake gazing at the parade.

Aenea quite pleased by all the candy and necklaces she caught.

The next day, we drove up to Silver Springs, near Ocala, where SAK used to vist as a child, and where Tarzan movies and Sea Hunt were filmed long ago.

The famous glass bottomed boats. The bubbly water is where a spring is rising. The water is crystal clear--you can see all the way to the bottom.

SAK admires natural beauty.

Rose and Jake can't forget where we were!

Though I didn't get any photos of Gainesville, this looks a lot like the parks there. Azaleas, oaks and palm trees.

A close-up of the kind of azalea that was my mother's favorite.

Ooh aah, this view shows all the moss in the trees. Isn't this place lovely?

Jeff of the Jungle!!

They don't have as many animals as they used to, but these large rodent fellows were still there.

This is the animal they had the most of. You can't really tell from this, but this is a BIG gator.

Ooh aah, this view shows all the moss in the trees. Isn't this place lovely?

I told Jeff this gator photo looks like a "postcard from sunny Florida."

One scary eyeball.

This is the "real" Florida. I have a larger version if you want a beautiful screen backtround.

This one looks like Monet went to north Florida!

More cypress swamp scenery.

DO click on this--it is a cool picture of leaves reflected in the water, and fish visible in the water below. Another fine computer wallpaper!

The fishies show up better here.

Here are fish as seen through the glass in the glass-bottomed boats.

A yummy crappie in the pretty water.

Name that shadow...

Jake and Rose patiently waiting while SAK looked at everything 3 times or more.

Here, SAK looks very hard for snapping turtles.

Obligatory Florida "SAK in front of big oak tree" shot.

Florida panther, wanting to be fed.

The Kodiak bear brothers snack on new oak leaves.

These guys were really cute, and we watched them a long time.

Here the big brother has whacked the little brother who was resting, and is getting the intended reaction.

These tired travelers wish you farewell from SAK and Jeff's never ending vacation photos!
